The Mostrim G.A.A. Club were one of the first to co operate in this venture. A Sub-committe was formed for this purpose and consisted of the following members. The overall co-ordinator was the late Tommy O'Brien, Longford Slashers. The main purpose of the games was to encourage the youth to have a love for hurling and to acquire the skills of the game. There were several competitions between the schools and Mostrim were always to the forefront, winning many of them. Mickey Reynolds (R.IP.) was Senior Club Chairman, Hugh Devine (RIP) Sec, and Tom McLoughlin, Asst Sec, also gave valued help and assistance to the Sub-Committe members during those formative years. Frank Kilbride, current owner of the Park House Hotel was a prominent member of the Bunlahy school team at that time. Ignatius Gallagher was to become the first Chairman of the Co Longford Hurling Board. The Committee continued their work until 1972 when the new one consisting of Billy Lynn, Kevin McCormack and Garda Michael McAuley took over the reins and ensured that the club continued to grow and go from strength to strength. |
