 The Auburn Hall
The Auburn Hall was built in 1944, during World War II. Before the hall was built four houses stood on the site. As material was scarce during the war years the material for the floor could not be got so a second had hospital floor was bought and was turned upside down and it is still there today. There have been extensions to the hall since it was originally built by Pat Kearney. The hall had to be built in eighteen months or the site would revert to the Edgeworths. The Auburn Hall was opened with a dress dance on the 18th January 1946. The directors of the Hall were John Quinn(Corner House), Hugh Quinn, Miko Farrell, Mattie Farrell and Barney Hughes. Each year for many years there was a Director's Dance which was a dress dance. Down through the years it functioned mainly as a dance hall and cinema then it was used by various organisations in the parish for activities such as discos, karate, badminton, tennis and supper dances. Now it functions mainly as a bingo hall and meeting hall, and is also home to the Edgeworthstown branch of the Credit Union.

My surname is Farrell and can be traced from the old gaelic name O'Fhearail, which means literally 'a man of valour'. During the middle ages the chief of the clan, known as the Lord of Annaly, resided at Longphirt Uí Fhearail(O'Farrell's fortress), hence the name of the town and county. The surname Farrell is very common in Longford today. In 1980 it stood thirty-fifth in the statistical returns showing the hundred most common names in the country.
